Dow Jones Printing Plants & Offices

We assisted with the renovation and expansion of all 11 of The Wall Street Journal’s printing facilities nationwide. The facilities must be modified to accommodate the new press lines due to the printing equipment upgrade. The design of each facility is unique and presents its own set of challenges. The renovations must occur concurrently, and each facility must be 100% operational for the entire duration of the work. Some sites are adding new press lines, while others are upgrading existing lines in-place. Although each copy of The Journal printed nationwide is identical in color saturation, paper consistency, and alignment, the press lines vary by type and manufacturer. There are different sizes, fire protection and utility supply requirements for each type. For these reasons, the phasing of construction and the logistics of operation were of primary concern.
